Gunners Through to Champions League Final

Well done to the boys in an "all hands on deck" defensive effort. A special mention to Jens Lehmann with another great penalty save, Jurgen must be happy with the WC coming up. Oliver Kahn now, has absolutely no chance of a recall.

Villareal had the lion's share of possession and Arsenal sat back and absorbed the pressure. Neither of the wing backs made forward runs and even Freddie sat back and marked Senna.

Anyway, nothing sensational, but a great team effort on getting through as obviously the first leg got us through.

Now, we need to concentrate on winning the last 3 games of the premiership and then have 10 days rest before the Champions League Final.

Hi...AJ from Sydney.
It was a great effort by the boys with a proven formula.
Yes we looked like we played pretty shite however a few points for clarification:
1) We stuck to Arsene’s plan of defending it out.
2) We were all tired considering our recent fixture list of pretty tough games, for eg Hleb could hardly run after 10 mins.
3) We played a 4141 formation with Gilberto effectively being another stopper and thus rendering Henry pretty useless…he could have put Kevin Muscat up front and still got the same result…
Hence the plan worked as the puto submarine didn’t score…be it with the softest penalty in the history of the game. The ref obviously felt sorry for the home crowd. Jens…He may be cast on Beverly Hills 90210…but he is a fucking great keeper. It just goes to show that over half the penalties which shouldn’t have been given don’t get scored.
So that’s the difference between an effective/great side and a good side, we capitalised on our opportunities and beat them fair and square. We beat them just like we beat the 2 richest clubs in the world…run away league leaders Juve and bottomless pit of money Real. We beat all 3 sides the same way and that was playing inspirational and sometimes breath-taking football in the first leg irrespective of where it was, and then a solid rear guard in the second. It HAS WORKED….9 games approx 850 minutes with out conceding a goal and goals against the best sides in the world with the youngest and cheapest side in the comp….I wont get into the raw talent thing….its proven.
Our game plan will be completely different against Barca we will kick into a different gear with a very fresh and hopefully non-injured squad.
If you watched Barca’s game this morning you would have seen a flaw and that is they don’t know how to consolidate, how to protect a good position and that may very well be their downfall. Yes the hammered Milan…but they never protected that precious goal…what will happen when the best counter attacking side in the world faces them?
They are a naturally brilliant attacking side but so are we…do they know how to defend that? I really don’t think so. Do we…I think we are much more capable.
I think the only way to beat Barca will be to give them some of their own with interest…if we can do that then we will win the first Champions League in our history and I think its fucking overdue.
None the less I am the proudest of Gooners…even if we don’t go all the way, in their shitest year in the last INVINCIBLE decade they may just make it the best.
So what’s happening on Thursday AM (TBA) May 18th? Does anybody know of any good pubs/clubs in Sydney where all us Gooners will be?
Cheers and thanks guys.

COME ON ARSENAL
