Our Thierry Henry
is 2006 Football Writers Association (FWA)
Player Of The Year
Arsenal's charismatic Captain and
all-time leading scorer has been voted Player of the Year for 2006 by the
Football Writers' Association.
The Arsenal Striker is again top scorer in
the Premier League this season with 23 goals and has been instrumental in
helping Arsenal reach the Champions League final, despite missing games
through injury early in the season.
Chelsea's John Terry came in second, followed by Man
United's Wayne Rooney
Recently crowned Professional
Footballer's Association (PFA) Player of the Year, Steven Gerrard, finished
fourth ahead of Chelsea's Joe Cole and Frank Lampard.
In addition to this year's award, Henry also
won it in both 2003 and 2004, making him the first player (and the first
overseas player) to win back-to-back awards. He now also becomes the first
player to win the award 3 times.
FWA Chairman, Paul Hetherington, was glowing
with praise for the Arsenal Legend. "Henry is a deserving winner in a season
when there have been several outstanding candidates, such as Terry, Rooney
and Gerrard."
"Henry's achievement ranks him up there as
the greatest player in the 59-year history of the award." |
