My Favourite Arsenal Memories!
Now for my favourite Arsenal Memory…
It was more for what happened off the field rather than on. As a true football fan some of your greatest life memories are entwined with your favourite football memories and this is one game I will remember for the rest of my life.
May 4th in 2002 was the day Arsenal met Chelsea in that years FA Cup Final.
Being the FA Cup final… a big day was planned. See Number 2 favorite memory for reasons why the FA Cup is so popular in Australia.
However May the 4th 2002 was also an important day personally as my wife Chinami (who was only a friend at the time) arrived in Australia from Japan.
She had transferred for work but I had met her 2 years earlier when I lived in Japan.
I arrived at the airport at 7am in my Gunners shirt as well as Gunners boxer shorts (underneath some jeans of course). What better way to show support to the cause than to spent the entire day in my beloved Gunners attire. I continue this tradition when every there is a big game…
I had mentioned to her that my favorite team would be playing a big game that night, she had no idea what that meant but was happy to tag along.
After helping her find her corporate apartment and letting her settle in, we had some lunch and she had a quick sleep. We had organized to head out to dinner with some old friends of hers at a posh restaurant in Darling Harbour. I did not change out of the Gunners gear and had plenty of looks and a couple of comments from those at dinner. One I can remember from a Waiter who hoped we would smash Chelsea as he disliked them…
After dinner we headed to the Sports Bar in Darling Harbour, where a number of other friends joined us.
The rest is history…We then went on to smash Chelsea 2 - 0 with a great goal from Freddie. Chinami struggled to get through the night but we are still together 7 years on and she is a Gunners fan as well. When I bought Gunners kits for my daughters she had to get one as well. She especially loves it every morning in Summer when I wake her to tell her how the Gunners played over night, well maybe not.
That’s the countdown, hope you enjoyed it. One final thing, there are plenty of more great memories to come as I believe in the club, the players and the fans.
Go the Gunners.

PS A couple of other favourites of mine…
Favourite Player – too many to name but Pires, Bergkamp and Henry come to mind but unfortunately they are gone. Looking forward to seeing Eduardo…..
Favourite Goal – Tony Adams v Everton, the goal he scored again Everton that wrapped up the Championship in 98. The pass, run, goal and best thing of all the celebration. He was a Gunner through and through, can’t wait until he comes back.
